How does your character feel about working at Café Akatsuki: Zetsu is loyal to the manager. He doesn't give much of a damn what everyone else is there for; he's there because Pein's there, and he'll do his job because Pein tells him to do it. That said, he gets a genuine pleasure out of cooking. Actually, the pleasure he gets out of cooking is a little bit creepy. He's there all day. Fifteen minutes before the doors are unlocked in the morning and the last one out at night. One would think he didn't have a life outside this. But then again, who knows?
As for the other employees: he knows a lot more about them than he should. Not that he's sharing the information; but he has an eerie ability to be pretty much anywhere, seemingly without ever abandoning his post. It's impossible to tell quite how he does this, but as the one running the kitchen, he likes to keep the rest of them on their toes. Appearing out of nowhere with hidden-camera footage of something that definitely should not have been seen is just one good way to do this. As is appearing around corners in the middle of illicit activities.
...Oh, and he is actually kind of fond of Tobi. In a "Wow, people this stupid really exist" kind of way. No, he is not fond of the others. Both of his personalities just like to see them squirm.
Obsession: Plants. The handicapped stall on the end of the men's employee restroom is actually a greenhouse. Only Zetsu has the key to it. It's had an "out-of-order" sign on the door since living memory, but within is a veritable miracle of sustainable gardening. In fact, a good deal of the herbs used for the food are grown in this very restroom stall. Zetsu tends them every day - where he finds time for it is yet another mystery - out of sight of the rest of the staff. He tries to hide his obsession with the green and growing, but it is not uncommon to see him with his attention fixed on the roses at the table centerpieces, his eyes glazed with some emotion it's probably better not to explore. Oh, and when his other personality is in control, he likes to bite things. Living things. Any living thing that gets close enough to be bitten. Only cooking meat prevents him from doing this, and so on days when this personality is in control he cooks nothing else.
Character History: Zetsu was a very special child. He doesn't talk about his parents, but it's pretty clear he's biracial - his mother was Japanese and his father was an English teacher who moved from New York to Japan. It was clear from a very young age that he had some rather distressing issues. See, sometimes little Zetsu would be a calm, unassuming child, staring at flowers and looking with upon the world with vaguely amused boredom; other times, he would run rampant on the playground, biting small children and threatening death to little girls with flowers in their hands. His parents, thoroughly confused, attempted to get him help, but to no avail. It was only when he found an interest in cooking that Zetsu began to calm down, and his grateful parents enrolled him in culinary school at the first possible opportunity. Now it was easy to tell which Zetsu was which - one cooked only vegan food and the other only meat. While strange, it was better than attempted cannibalism, and so his parents didn't mind overmuch.
Zetsu graduated culinary college with flying colors and quickly got a job at Cafe Akatsuki through Pein, ensuring his undying loyalty forevermore. Here was a place that didn't seem to mind his split personality setting the menu every day; besides which, the coworkers were endlessly amusing to one personality and fun to manipulate to the other. And he had his plants. Hence, contentment.
